[EAT_TRADITIONAL] 5.Hanjeongsik_Korean Table d'hote_한정식

blogger:Jutako

Restaurant Name

산들해_Sandulhae

Today's menu_Korean table d'hote

I am not sure if I picked the best term for today's menu. Today's menu is a very traditional Korean meal with lots of different kinds of side dishes. I think I mentioned last time that I will bring you guys to "a heavn of side dishes!" This is it! Let's check the outside of restaurante  first.

It's in the big fancy building

Main enterence of the building, EL tower!

It's located in the first basement level

This is what we are going to eat tonight!

Enterence of today' resturante, Sandulhae

While this place is famous for Korean traditional menu, the place is located in a very fancy building. The location is very convenient. If you get off at Yangjae station(exit NO.9), it's right next to it. You can't miss it. The restaurant is very clean, big and luxury. If you want to try high class(?) Korean tradition food, this is the right place!

Huge table!

Very clean as well

With such a nice location and interior, how much do you think our menu is?

Tada~ menu's here

This is my recommendation, Korean table d'hote

Jutako's recommendation_한정식_Hanjeongsik_Korean table d'hote

1,5000 KRW per 1 person
My order: Hanjeongsik for 2 people

The price is very reasonable when we consider the food's quality!

You can add other main dishs with extra charge

More dishes that you can add!

Tradional alcohol :)

In my opinion, the Hanjeongsik is already nice and plentiful without extra order. I always barely can finish all the food. It's not because I don't like the food here. It's rather becuase the food portion here is huge. One important tip for you! You can ask to refill some of the side dishes if you want more :)  How nice it is! But please do ask just few~ it's an important etiquette!

This is for two people!

Alright. From here, let me show you what kind of side dishes I had. Most of them were Korean traditional food!

Stir-fried glass noodles and vegetables

Kimchi :)

Soy sauce marinated crab

Seasoned bellflower roots, Lotus root salad,
Seasoned mung bean jelly salad, Anchovy & nut

Soybean paste soup with dried radish leaves

Green chilies with soybean paste

Sea weed

Grilled fish

Pureed soybean stew

Soybean paste sauce

You can mix some of side dishes made of vegetables, rice, and this soybean paste sauce together. Then it's kind of Bibimbap!

Boiled pork with a salty sauce and kimchi

Steamed cabbage and Lettuce

I personally like to eat the boiled pork wrapped in a steamed cabbage leave!

Salad

Seasoned bok choy and Seasoned bean sprouts

Radish kimchi

Korea style Pancake with sauce

Seasoned zucchini

Seasoned eggplant

Hot pot rice

I told you it's a lot of dishes! There are no specific rule to eat them. Except for this tip!  After you eat all of the rice, then there will be crispy rice crust(누룽지, nurungji) left. Then it's the time to pour the hot water in there! Fill the hot pot with hot water(I think it's barley tea, not just water), and wait for few mins. And then scrape out crispy rice crust and it them all with side dishes again! That is a tip to finish all of the rice without wasting it. Plus, it's one of our traditional ways and also rice crust and barley tea are such a nice combination! Don't forget to try it! :)

Just like this!

How did you like today's restaurant? Did you already notice the best thing about this place? It's a well-balanced meal! There is no food with strong flavor or too much calories. This is a way too healthy meal.

How about the tasty? I can certainly say the food here is very tasty. It's not a unique or creative taste but for those of you who want to try Korean food, this place is one of the must-visit places! I hope you like the place too :)

[EAT_TRADITIONAL] 4.Jokbal_Pig's feet_족발

blogger:Jutako

Restaurant Name

경원집_Kyungwonjip

Today's main dish_Jokbal

Did you already read what's today's menu? Maybe... some of you, who are not familiar with Asian food, could get surprised a bit. Today I had one of the very traditional Korean foods! Today' blog will be very "Korean."  I hope you enjoy!

A happy pig! 꿀꿀!

What Jokbal is made of? I already gave you a hint upside! Jokbal(족발) is made of pig's feet. Does your country also have this type of food? Depending on your answer, I guess you might like this food or maybe not.

How to make Jokbal? Simply to say, boil pig's feet with medical herbs and roots, and some vegetables... (Plus... more stuff! Hard to list all of them) After boiling, we eat the Jokbal with many different kinds of sources, vegetables,  and side dishes.

What's so good about this food? When chef boils pig's feet, it's boiled with a lot of healthy ingredients, such as milk vetch root, Korean angelica root, acanthopanax, jujube...etc. What? you started feeling headache? :) Alright. Just keep that in mind! Heathly ingredients. Let's start seeing the restaurant now.

Front view of restaurant

Side view of restaurant

It's known for a long history. It says 50 years!
Should be really good one, isn't it?

It's just a normal restaurant. There are not much things to talk about, in terms of outside view or interior. However, the location was very convenient and the restaurant was quite cleaned, even though it has a long history! I came here in order to taste famous Jokbal! So, that normal restaurant visual wasn't disappointing me at all. The taste will pay off my effort :)

It's recently been in a famous food TV program!

One of my friends sent me a photo of this place and asked me to go together, as it's so famous and it was on TV program. I also had high expectation on this place, because it was on TV very recently and me and my sister are big fans of that food TV program, 맛있는 녀석들. Until that moment... I really trusted that TV program.

Let's go check the menu!

The menu here is very simple. I would say they are very specialized in few dishes? :) Left side is showing some food, which are good with drinks, while right side is showing lunch menu.

Tip) Top menus
Jokbal
빈대떡(bindaetteok_mung-bean pancake)

Since I went there at night, me and my friends ordered a bottle of  막걸리(makgeolli_rice wine), and also ordered those top two dishes, Jokbal & Mung-bean pancake.

Mung-bean pancake! (Separate order)
There are some squid inside!

From here, it's all free side dishes coming with Jokbal!

Shellfish Soup

Salted[pickled] shrimp

Pickled onion

Salted oysters with hot pepper

lettuce, green onion, garlic, green paper,
and source(쌈장_ssamjang)

Maybe you think the free side dishes are a lot and cool? But I think it's kind of normal in Korea that you get many free side dishes, when you order a main dish. It's a Korean thing. So, remember it's not only in this place! Next time I will take you to a "heaven of side dishes!" Promise you!

Because the Jokbal is not seasoned or marinated much, the side dishes are quite strong. I guess maybe it could be a bit too strong for those of you, who are not familiar with Korean food. It's definitely good to eat  jokbal with side dish together though. Wonderful combination! So, try it!

Main dish_Jokbal!

At the bottom, you can see the bones.

Pig bones are normal "decoration" in Jokbal. Please don't feel that you got cheated :) It anyway makes the dish plentiful and tasty!

Have one bite~

With green onion together

Put whatever you like and wrapped in lettuce

I don't know how to end this blog today. I am not saying this restaurant wasn't good, but I personally don't want to recommend this restaurant. I strongly recommend you to try Jokbal, if you visit Korea, but this place is not the best place for Jokbal in my personal opinion. I have had Jokbals a lot of times in my life(?), but this place wasn't my best choice...

Not always we can make best choice... right? :) That's why I am writing this blog, in order to help you to make wonderful choice, when you travel in Korea! I have learned a very important lesson today; Do not trust mess media!!! Precious lesson :)
