Welcome back guys! Today I would like to introduce you a "kind" restaurant in Gangnam_강남. The name of today's place is Ugly Stove_어글리 스토브. How does the restaurant's name sound like to you? When I heard of it for the first time, question mark(?) came to my mind first. What do the place want to tell us by the name, "Ugly Stove...?"

How do I get to know about this restaurant? Through the internet research? No! or through my friend? No! I sometimes donate my blood_헌혈. This time I did it at Gangnam blood donation center. After I finished "bloody time," I receive one free Carbonara spaghetti_까르보나라 스파게티 coupon of Ugly Stove. I did not know Ugly Stove supports Gangnam blood donation center. Free carbonara spaghetti...? um... frankly that was a very tempting and sounds like a good deal. I also wanted to visit the restaurant, because I found that this type of blood donation support is really warm-hearted!

On the other side, it's explaining brand story of the restaurant.

I could find the meaning of the restaurant, "Ugly Stove," from the brand story. For health, they seek for natural taste. So they use ugly, but heathy ingredients for food, instead of using ingredients made looking good through unhealthy process. Now it sounds quite good to me. :)

I wouldn't say very nice, but still it's above average I think

Self bar. To be honest, this part wasn't look so good with such a modern restaurant.

But for sure, it was very nice to eat pickles as much as I wanted! No need to ask for it.

The fries looks very different from normal one in Korea.

That was my lunch with my sister on that day. How does it look like? How do you think about this restaurant's brand story and marketing of supporting blood donation center? I personally really appreciated the support and hope more people can support the blood donation center! It will encourage people more to come to the blood donation center for blood donation! But I will keep donating my blood from time to time, without such a free coupon though. :) We can save someone else, which is much valuable than just a free coupon.

Considering that it's a western food restaurant, it should be quite expensive in Korea. However here, the price was reasonable and taste also very good! I can't find special reason not to recommend this place. If you just want to try some Korean style western food in Gangnam, why not here? :)

Hello guys! Today I am here with a wonderful guest. She is one of my best foreign friends from Hong Kong city! We got to know each other by teaching and learning Korean language in Hong Kong. She is such a good fan of Korea :) She visited Seoul in a such a great timing, so here we are. Today Chimchim will tell you more about Korea. From my side, I will introduce you a fusion Korean restaurant, where Chimchim wanted to try with me!

Menu here is all fusion dishes. I felt like "oh! I know this! but.. I don't think it's exactly the same dish I know." Actually all of them are very creative dishes! Even to me, local person, it was quite fun to try. If you know the taste of original food, it will be better I think.

To be honest, I really liked everything but rice ssam. If I visit next time, I would like to try one of the noodles in the menu, instead of rice ssam. I heard the type of noodle here is special type of noodle. Keep that in mind, when you order your dish!

Jutako) How did you get to know about Korea? 

Chimchim) I got to know Korea through Korean drama, like many of other Hong Kong people. My first K-drama was Autumn in my heart(2000). After K-drama, I also got to know K-pop through my classmate in university. From then, I started getting familiar with Korean culture. 

Jutako) What do you like about Korea?

Chimchim) First FOOD! K-drama and K-pop as well.

Jutako) Do you like Korean food? What is your favorite Korean food?

Chimchim) I love Korean food. Most of the food just so good to me :) Gamjatang_pork back-bone stew_감자탕! I love the taste so much!

Jutako) Then, what would you recommend to readers? Besides gamjatang?

Chimchim) I would recommend any types of soup among Korean food. I think all the Korean soup is very good! Especially I recommend Gamjatang, Yokgaejang_hot spicy meat stew_육개장, and Seolleongtang_ox bone soup_설렁탕. I also want to recommend Pajeon_Green Onion Pancake_파전! 

Chimchim recommended me a nice Pajeon restaurant in Noryangjin area. I will take you guys to there soon or later! :)

Today's main menu is Stir-Fried Rice Cake with Cheese and Hamburg Steak (함박치즈떡볶이_Hamburg Cheese Tteokbokki)! 
Have you heard of Tteokbokki? It is one of the most popular and famous Korean food. Tteokbokki can be explained as Stir-Fried Rice Cake. When I was young, I had it all the time after school! It's cheap and yummy, so I believe it's "nataional student food" in Korea!

Tteokbokki that I am going to introduce to you is more than just simple Tteokbokki. It's with Cheese and Hamburg Steak together. As you know, Korean food is known for spicy food. I also love spicy food but I am not good at eating spicy food... So I really love this type of spicy food with Cheese and extra topping together. It's less spicy! 

 Let's go to the restaurant now!

This place was introduced by TV food program. It does not always guarantee the place, but I thought at least it's worth to try! (It was excellent choice!)

I couldn't find menu attached on the wall in this restaurant. I was looking for the menu for a while actually. The menu was hidden inside of drawer. Do you know that in Korea silverware and napkin are nornally "hidden" inside of drawer? Each table has a drawer :) Also, do you see the round button on the table? It's to call waiter/waitress. You don't need to call out someone. Just push the button! These are very common things in most of restaurant.

There are many different menu with spicy seasoned meat with cheese. If you visit this place in a big group, I recommend you to try different dishes as well, besides Tteokbokki. This restaurant is actaully famous for Cheese Grilled Back Ribs, as the name of restaurante is Hamjibak Cheese, Grilled Back Ribs. That dish was popular last yer or few years ago in Seoul, as I remember. 
However, now I guess this Tteokbokki menu become more famous. At wherever you try, it doesn't matter, but Cheese Grilled Back Ribs is also very tasty Korean food! :)

These are the list of extra topping menu and drinks. You can add more toppings, whatever you want, but with EXTRA cost :) I personally recommen you Rice Balls with Flying Fish Roe or Flying Fish Roe Fried Rice.

 Then a staff will come and help you to cut the hamburg steak on the top of the grill pan. Be patient and watch the food!

How was today's dish? I hope you enjoyed as well. It looks quite spicy, right? But It wasn't spicy at all. It was just right spicy, even though I barely can eat spicy food. If you want to try Tteokbokki, try this place! It's still taste like original Tteokbokki, but more fun to eat with special toppings, Cheese and Hamburg steak!
